About the Props Department

The Props Department of 21st Century Studios was founded in the early 1970’s, utilising ex WW2  corrugated iron domed hangars on the edge of Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire. When these facilities were eventually demolished due to MOD requisition, storage warehouses were found temporarily by Bristol Docks in 1980 ( where Aardman Animations now reside ), before moving to more permanent premises at the Royal Carriage Houses, Windsor, in order to be closer to the major film studios such as Pinewood, Elstree and the BBC in Wood Lane, Shepherd’s Bush. Eventually, during the “boom years” in the late 1980’s when the leasing of commercial property in the Home Counties became exorbitant, and for reasons of logistics, transportation and easy access to the ports to France, a more affordable facility was sought on the South Coast, with a depot in Normandy as a “receiving outlet” for productions being filmed in Europe. Today, in 2024, The Props Department ( as it became known to its most loyal clients ) remains a key ( albeit smaller ) “go to” facility for bespoke requirements, often subject to deadlines and complicated delivery schedules.

We, as a Company, still endeavour to provide excellence in a timely, reliable and professional manner.

Props. On set. On location. On screen……
